Dolgellau and Much More!

This event is to be held on Saturday 25th November 2017

An adventurous Phototrip starting in Dolgellau then moving around a few locations further west before returning to Dolgellau. Lots of opportunities for photographing structures, detail and landscapes as well as trying some street photography and probably more!

First of all the sensible stuff:

If you are joining this Phototrip, be sure to double-check this website just before the event in case of changes or even cancellation - after all it is at the end of November!

Next, please car-share and ensure that the driver is happy to drive on single track, winding roads.

Also, wear clothing appropriate for the weather as well as sturdy footwear.

The Itinerary:

Meet at TH Roberts Coffee Shop (on the corner of Bridge St and Glyndwr St, Dolgellau - LL40 1BD) ready for a 10.30am departure by car.

Stop 1 is at the south end of Penmaenpool Bridge (LL40 1YD). Drive approximately two and a half miles west from Dolgellau along the A493 towards Fairbourne. At the start of a 30mph speed limit turn immediately right (signposted ‘Abermaw, Barmouth (Toll)') and again immediately right into the car park - do not cross the bridge!

Stop 2 is at the very scenic Cregennan Lakes. Continue on the A493 towards Fairbourne and, after approximately three and a half miles, pass 30mph/Arthog signs then take the next left (small sign to Cregennan Lakes). Follow the winding single track road for one and a half miles, through a couple of gates, to the unmissable Creggenan Lakes car park. (Toilet available).

Stop 3 is a small derelict chapel and cemetery in woodland. Continue further south along the road from the Lakes for half a mile then turn left at the junction. After a further 1.8miles turn left through the gateway in the drystone wall (not signposted). Follow the road for 1 mile - it descends sharply and passes through a farmyard on the way. The small cemetery is visible on the left. Another 300yds further on is the Kings YHA at LL40 1TB.

Stop 4, ‘Blue Lake’ Quarry, demands a half mile walk and a steep climb - an alternative is to go direct to the final stop. Continue along the road, past the YHA, for one and a quarter miles then turn left to rejoin the A493 towards Fairbourne. After 5 miles approach Fairbourne and, at the 30mph signs, remain on the A493 for another 500 yards and park in the lay-by in front of houses on the right (more road-side parking slightly further on the left). Walk back along the main road and turn first right into the road ‘Fford Panteinion’. Then, after 500yds, pass through the ‘kissing’ gate on the right; follow the track up the steep hillside to the quarry.

Final stop: Back to Dolgellau - wander the streets and have well-earned tea and cake in TH Roberts!
