The Shropshire Photographic Society, grand of title purely due to its long and distinguished history, comprises a membership of hugely enthusiastic photographers. Some of us are professionals; most enjoy photography purely as a hobby. Some have many (many) years of experience; some are novices, but we all share a passion for the photographic image. The Society provides a focus for that passion where we can share, be inspired, and learn from each others’ experiences.
We have an active programme that runs throughout the season including photographic competitions, practical demonstrations, photography-related presentations, exhibitions and social events.
A highlight of our calendar is the Society trip which typically involves a significant number of our members spending a weekend away in a suitably photogenic location, inspiring each other to take great photographs and generally having a good time. Last season saw the members visit the Gower Peninsula in South Wales but previous trips have included the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.
We are a hugely friendly and inclusive group. Whatever your age, experience, equipment or technique (whether you’re shooting large-format black-and-white , regularly up to your elbows in darkroom chemicals, an avid Photoshop compositor, someone getting to grips with their first point-and-shoot camera or any number of alternatives) you’ll find us only too keen to help you get the maximum enjoyment out of your photography.
Come along and see us at the Gateway from September to May on Mondays at 7.30, there is no obligation to join and you will be warmly welcomed. The Gateway has excellent facilities including disabled access.
