Programme for 2025 - 2026 Season

A chance to renew or start your membership and meet your fellow members. There will be short presentations on what the society does, how to enter competitions and the competition rules as well as time for Q&A and gathering ideas for weekend trips and open nights.

Once a breakdancing champion, Lisa Rendall is now the rebel in the art of photography always looking for different and exciting ways to express her imagination This award winning, colourful and dynamic presentation shows what can be achieved using intentional camera movement.

Bring your cameras. Tom will be advising on portrait styles and lighting. He will be modelling, for a fun, practical evening

Ian’s talk will start with a slide show of images taken around the world including landscape and astrophotography.  Ian will discuss techniques, feelings about his adventures and editing.

Back in 1986, Peter's first talk was entitled Electric Dreams and this will be his final act. This will be a combination of Peter showing his photographs taken recently and looking back at the images since his first talk. To broaden the interest, Peter's talk will be interspersed with several audio visual presentations some with AI input and images where AI meets reality.

Kylie will take us from my first mono image which was taken around 2006/7 and give a brief explanation of her health restrictions, which also impact on her photography. We will see an assortment of images, some which she likes but did enter in competitions, some that did and helped her attain her EFIAP, BPE2, CPAGB and LDPS, and then images taken recently.

Martine will explore the legal and ethical issues that face photographers in the 21st century and will include such specifics of intellectual property, metadata and key-wording. The presentation will be in two parts: Part 1 on rules and tools and Part 2 being practical demonstrating how the framework can apply to members' images

Presentation of the awards for the National BPE and PAGB approved Exhibition, organised by Shropshire PS. The showing of the accepted images from the Open Colour, Monochrome, Scapes and Nature categories set to music.

Ben will share some of his extensive collection of polar images and tell some of the stories behind them. His Arctic portfolio includes images from a commission for the Greenland Tourist board and two Light and Land tours in West Greenland. He has also photographed Svalbard and Arctic Canada. At the other end of the planet, Antarctica has underpinned Ben’s photography career and few people have more varied image collections from this beautiful continent.

Get ready for Christmas with our social evening.

A week before the meeting, members will be given access to 5 images to download and edit in the way that they would normally process their own images. Tonight we will show and discuss these images and see how others have interpreted the same photo. Also, the committee will give a short update on progress regarding about the society becoming a Charity.

To test your creativity, the week beforehand members will be given 6 subjects for you to go out into the local area and take one photo only of each category. Bring the photos on a memory stick and meet up at the Hermitage on Monday to show and discuss.

Over the last two decades Fujifilm have grown their own unique range of photographic equipment that has become the GO TO brand for many of our members. Carol will demonstrate the latest Fuji kit ranging from small pocketable crop sensor cameras to high end medium format systems up to 102 megapixels and much kit in-between.

A photographic battle between local photographic societies, adjudicated by an independent PAGB judge Kylie Ann Martin. An excellent display of images guaranteed.

Ally Clarke's photographic journey began with darkroom experiments, before finding her true calling 8 years ago. She specialises in professional pet photography from outdoor only shoots to studio work. She has a particular fondness for senior pets and capturing the special bond between animals and their owners. Ally combines her portrait expertise with her natural affinity for animals. She will share her technical approach, creative process and vision for the future of pet photography.

Members are invited to give a 10 minute presentation of photos that they have taken on holiday or out and about, to give us an insight about their particular style of photography.

A panel of either three or four prints that work together as a complete set. Judged by an independent PAGB Judge, John Lewis.

This talk aims to showcase some of the County’s diverse wildlife, starting in Steven’s back garden which he has developed over many years specifically to provide a home and feeding place for all creatures. We then go further afield around Shropshire recounting some of his favourite places and the wildlife that can be found there.

To test your creativity with a zoom lens: Over the weekend, members are asked to take their cameras, find a suitable place in the local area and stand in ONE spot without moving, other than to rotate 360 degs, and take up to 6 totally different photos. Bring the jpegs to the meeting on memory card for discussion.

Award winning photographer Claire Carter moved from Shropshire to Fort William a few years ago and will show her extensive portfolio of landscape images of the Highlands and Islands. Not to be missed for those who love this area which, compared to Patagonia where Claire has taken us before in a previous talk, is on our doorstep.

Happy Mayday! No meeting this week.

David and Angela Tucker are passionate about photography and regularly enter exhibitions so they are showing some of their favourite pictures today. This talk covers various genres including portraiture, nature, still life, IR and even some landscapes! So, something for everyone and ranges from FIAP gold medal awarded images all the way to pictures that are simply something that they personally like.

It's a Bank Holiday this week, so no meeting.

Over the season, members submit up to six projected images based on subjects selected over the year. The Eldred Trophy is awarded to the person with the most points overall, and the Misses Jones Salver is presented to the winner of the best image overall. Judged by an independent PAGB Judge, Ian Whiston.
